COLOMBO, APRIL 17, SPA -- ANTI-PERSONNEL MINES EXPLODED IN THREE NORTHEASTERN LANKAN TOWNS ON MONDAY, KILLING FOUR SOLDIERS, TWO TAMIL TIGER REBELS AND WOUNDING THREE AIR FORCE MEN, AS SPIRALING VIOLENCE PUSHED THE DEATH TOLL FROMA WEEK OF BLOODY UNREST TO AT LEAST 50, OFFICIALS SAID. IN THE LATEST ATTACK, SUSPECTED REBELS DETONATED A MINE AS AN AIR FORCE BUS WAS PASSING THROUGH IN BATTICALOA,WOUNDING THREE AIR FORCE PERSONNEL, ONE CRITICALLY, SAID AIR FORCE SPOKESMAN, GROUP CAPTAIN AJANTHA PERERA. IN OTHER ATTACK AND INCIDENT MONDAY, A SIMILARANTI-PERSONNEL MINE KILLED FOUR GOVERNMENT SOLDIERS INNORTHERN VAVUNIYA, DEPUTY INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICEGAMINI SILVA SAID.
