JAKARTA, APRIL 5, SPA -- FOUR INDONESIAN ANTI-TERROR SQUAD OFFICERS LEARNING TO DISMANTLE BOMBS WERE KILLED WEDNESDAY WHEN THE DEVICE THEY WERE HANDLING ACCIDENTALLY EXPLODED, A POLICE SPOKESMAN SAID. THE BLAST TOOK PLACE INSIDE A POLICE COMPOUND IN THE WESTERN CITY OF MEDAN, SAID BRIG. GEN. ANTON BAHRUL ALAM. AT LEAST EIGHT OTHERS WERE INJURED, HE SAID. WITNESSES REPORTED SEEING SEVERAL OFFICERS FROM THE MOSTLY U.S.-FUNDED SQUAD WITH SERIOUS BLAST INJURIES BEING TAKEN TO A NEARBY HOSPITAL.
