DILI, East Timor, Jan 6, SPA -- Three pro-Indonesia militiamenwere fatally shot Friday as they tried to infiltrate into East Timor, a senior police official said. The three were among seven armed militiamen who wereintercepted as they tried to cross the border near Tunubibivillage in Maliana district. They were shot dead in agun battle with authorities, said Col. Paulo de FatimaMartins, commander of the East Timor police. He identified one of the slain militiamen as formermilitia leader Jose Mausorti, who allegedly has infiltratedseveral times into Cailaco, a sub district in Maliana tomeet his wife and children. The Associated Press quoted Martins as saying that East Timor border police were still hunting for the other four militiamen.
