Prince Saud says Action Plan will restore confidence in joint Islamic work

Jeddah, Dec 7, SPA -- Highlighting the importance of the extraordinary Islamic Summit, Prince Saud Al-Faisal, the Foreign Minister, said the agenda of the Summit and the documents due to be submitted to the Muslim leaders aim at restoration of confidence in the joint Islamic work in addition to urging the Muslim countries to improve their situation in a manner that enables them confront dangers facing them. In a press statement following the preparatory meeting of the Islamic foreign ministers here yesterday, Prince Saud said "the Summit is an extraordinary one, preparation for it was also extraordinary and the manner in which problems will be tackled will also be extraordinary." He hoped that the Summit would meet the aspirations of the Muslim nation, and make citizens in the Muslim world feel that the Summit is genuinely tackling the problems. Prince Saud hailed the significant role played by OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu and his colleagues to make the Summit successful. Prince Saud pointed out that the three papers due to be presented at the Summit include a ten-year action plan, the Makkah Declaration and the final communiqué. He denied whether the 10-year plan will be a road map for the joint Islamic work, and said it is a 10-year plan and it is liable for renewal within five years. Prince Saud also denied existence of a proposal from some countries to give more chance to the 10-year plan and to postpone discussions to next meetings.
