Arab League chief urges regional and international help to Iraq

Cairo, Nov 19, SPA -- Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa called on Saturday for regional and international help to Iraq. In remarks at the U.S.-backed Iraq's national reconciliationconference which opened this morning in the Egyptian capital, Moussa said "Protecting Iraq against the danger of slipping towardsedition or civil infighting is in the best interest of theArabs ... . It's also a Turkish, Iranian and internationalinterest," he said. "No one will gain anything bytransforming Iraq into a battleground for regional andinternational conflicts and tensions," he said. "This will not happen without everyone's help to Iraquntil it regains its freedom, independence and its fullsovereignty on its land and resources and so that thepolitical process can widen to embrace the demands ofeveryone and win their confidence," Moussa added.--MORE1453 Local Time 1153 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/303783
