Madrid, Nov 22, SPA -- Spain may appeal to the International Court of Justice in The Hague unless Norway immediately releases two Spanish fishing vessels it intercepted on charges of illegal fishing, news reports said Tuesday in Madrid. A senior foreign ministry official was to meet the Norwegian ambassador to request an explanation, according to dpa. The vessels were reportedly intercepted around Svalbard near the Arctic Circle over the weekend. Spain claims one of them was carrying out research and that the other had the right to fish there, while Norway accuses the vessels of dumping turbot. Spain may take the case to The Hague unless Norway allows it to be judged by Spanish tribunals, said Juan Carlos Martin Fraguerio, a secretary of state in charge of fishing. --SPA 1429 Local Time 1129 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/304610
