Paris, Oct 26, SPA -- France's interior minister presented along-awaited anti-terrorism bill to the Cabinet onWednesday, rejecting allegations that it would trample oncivil liberties. The bill would stiffen prison sentences for convictedterrorists, allow police to monitor citizens who travel tocountries known for terror training camps and broaden theuse of surveillance cameras, The Associated Press reported. Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy has led the effort toboost France's legal arsenal against terrorism, respondingto July bombings in London. He rejected claims that hisproposed measures will create a police state. "My job is to ensure the safety of people," he toldreporters following the Cabinet meeting. The government aims to get the bill, drawn up by theinterior and justice ministries, through parliament beforethe end of the year. President Jacques Chirac'sconservatives control both houses. "The terrorist risk is real," Chirac told the Cabinetmeeting.
