India's Parliament condemns terrorist attacks in Britain, Egypt

New Delhi, July 25, SPA -- Indian lawmakers stood in silence onMonday for those killed in recent attacks in Britain andEgypt, and called upon democratic countries to strengthencooperation to combat terrorism. "India _ being a victim of terrorism for more than twodecades _ shares with deep empathy the anguish and pain ofthe people of the United Kingdom and Egypt at these heinousacts," Speaker Somnath Chatterjee said. Chairman of the upper house, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, saidsuch attacks underscored the fact that open and democraticsocieties like India were especially vulnerable. "There is a need to strengthen cooperation in acoordinated manner to free the world of this scourge," hesaid.
