Washington, Dec 29, SPA -- The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MAPC) has called for meetings with U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez and FBI Director Robert Mueller to discuss recent reports of widespread surveillance and radiation monitoring of more than 100 American Muslim mosques, homes, and businesses. "We are requesting to be informed of and included in discussions about homeland security that affect our communities across this nation," said MPAC Executive Director Salam al-Marayati yesterday. "The more information we have, the better our ability to help our government protect our nation. As that communication decreases, it is more likely that these very needed communities will feel alienated and excluded from the national public debate." The report, coming on the heels of the New York Times' revelations of government-sanctioned domestic spying by the National Security Agency (NSA) has worried U.S. Muslims, who see the trend as counterproductive in fighting terrorism, MPAC said. FBI Assistant Director of Public Affairs John Miller told MPAC that a meeting between government official and Muslim leaders is "imminent." --SPA 10 57 Local Time 07 57 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/315411
