Judge in Saddam trial says has considered moving court to Kurdish area

Berlin, Nov 27, SPA -- Saddam Hussein's chief trial judge said inremarks released Sunday that he has considered whether thecourt should move to Kurdish-controlled northern Iraqbecause of poor security in the capital. "So far, the situation allows regular and fairproceedings of the court, even if the conditions areadmittedly difficult," Rizgar Mohammed Amin was quoted assaying in the German news weekly Focus. "I have already thought about whether one shouldn't movethe court to the Kurdish areas, where the situation isquieter and more security would be assured," Amin said inan interview released ahead of its publication on Monday. Asked whether such a move could provoke criticism in theArab media and suggestions that the Kurds were trying totake revenge on Saddam, Amin said: "We are a court anddecide according to the law. There is no such thing asrevenge for us." "I am simply asking myself what is best to carry out myduties," he was quoted as saying by The Associated Press. The trial of the former Iraqi leader and sevenco-defendants is due to resume Monday, November 28, after afive-week break.
