Washington, Oct 8, SPA -- The White House has denied that U.S. President George W. Bush told Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas and then-Foreign Minister Nabil Shaath that God told Bush to invade Iraq and Afghanistan. "That's absurd. He's never made such comments," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Thursday. Bush's claim of divine inspiration will be reported in an upcoming BBC documentary. The Palestinian ministers said Bush also told them during a June 2003 meeting that he had been ordered by God to create a Palestinian state. "President Bush said to all of us: 'I'm driven with a mission from God'," said Shaath, now the Palestinian information minister. Shaath said President Bush told him: "God would tell me, George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan. And I did. And then God would tell me, George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq. And I did. And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East. And by God I'm gonna do it." Abbas, on the other hand, said President Bush told him that he was acting under "a moral and religious obligation" to help the establishment of a Palestinian state.--SPA1117 Local Time 0817 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/294883
