Washington, June 2, SPA -- U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and senior E.U. envoys discussed Thursday how to rally support for Iraq at an upcoming conference on the country's political future, dpa reported. The U.S. and the E.U. will co-host the June 22 conference in Brussels, being held at the Iraqi transitional government's request. Leading up to the summit, Rice met with Luxembourg's foreign minister Jean Asselborn, whose country currently chairs the E.U.; E.U. foreign policy chief Javier Solana, and Benita Ferrero-Waldner, the E.U. External Affairs Commissioner. Rice said they talked about the opportunities at the conference "to gather international support for this government as it manages the important transition for the Iraqi people." Iraqi leaders are expected to lay out future plans at the meeting, cited by Ferrero-Waldner as a sign of a "new dynamic" in U.S.- European relations. Asselborn said the meeting will allow that Iraqi leadership "to present its strategy and the priorities to the international community", and to allow countries to tell Iraq that their are committed to a positive future for the country. --SP 0005 Local Time 2105 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/267065
