disasters New Delhi, Dec 20, SPA -- The European Union will spend 6 million euros (7.2 million dollars) to help enhance the capacity of agencies in India, Pakistan and Nepal to meet future disasters like the tsunami and earthquakes, dpa quoted sources of the Union as saying Tuesday. "The effort would be to improve capacities of donors, aid agencies and communities to limit the impact of future disasters," said Susanne Moorhead, a member of the E.U. delegation in New Delhi. The European Union last week announced an additional 20 million euros of aid for the victims of the December 26 Indian Ocean tsunami. The amount was in addition to 103 million euros already committed by the European Commission. The union has also called a meeting Tuesday of major donors for tsunami relief and rehabilitation in Brussels. The meeting will take stock of what has been achieved in the year after the disaster, identify lessons learned and set out the next steps that are to concentrate on reconstruction and the re-establishment of livelihoods, the E.U. official said. --SP 1433 Local Time 1133 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/313262
