Baghdad, Iraq, May 7, SPA -- A suicide car bomb exploded in a busycommercial neighborhood of central Baghdad on Saturdaymorning, killing six people and wounding 22, police said. The powerful blast set fire to many cars parked in thearea and damaged some shops, said police Maj. AbbasMohammed Salman, who gave the casualty figures. The explosion sent a huge plume of black smoke up into thesky, and Associated Press photographs and televisionfootage from the scene showed the remains of several bodieslying in Tahrir Square. An official at the nearby al-Kindi Hospital said itreceived two bodies and 16 wounded victims, and that otherhospitals also had received casualties.
