Amman, April 17, SPA-- Jordan's King Abdullah II in discussions Sunday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called for the planned Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip to be followed by a similar "pullout from the West Bank" as stated by the "Roadmap" peace plan, an official statement said. "The Gaza withdrawal should be followed by a pullout from the West Bank in accordance with the provisions of the roadmap," a Royal Court statement quoted King Abdullah as saying during the meeting. "Given that certain issues should be left to the final status negotiations, the imposition of solutions without participation of concerned parties will not serve the peace process and will not lead to practical results that are acceptable to all parties," the monarch added. King Abdullah II and the Palestinian president "considered the issue of Israeli settlements an obstacle that blocks the conclusion of a just and durable peace" between Israel and the Palestinians, the statement said. They stressed the need for "stopping the building of any new settlements and removal of existing settlements from the Palestinian territories because they are illegal", it added. --SPA 2312 Local Time 2012 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/255401
