Baghdad, May 9, SPA -- A suicide car bomb has been detonated at a checkpoint in southern Baghdad, killing the three occupants of the vehicle along with another two people, police told CNN. A driver with two passengers pulled up to the checkpoint at 9.10 a.m. on Monday. They blew up the car after being stopped, police said, and the occupants of the vehicle died immediately. Police are uncertain about the identities of the dead, but nine people were wounded, including six police and three civilians. To date, 1,602 American forces have been killed since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003. In all, 1,780 coalition forces -- not counting Iraqi forces -- have been killed. --SPA1125 Local Time 0825 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/260934
