Kurdish rebels kill five Turkish soldiers

Istanbul, Turkey, Sept 11, SPA -- Kurdish rebels on Sunday killedfive Turkish soldiers in latest violence in the country'ssoutheast, Turkish authorities said. Kurdish guerrillas killed four soldiers, including asergeant, in a clash near the city of Sirnak, localauthorities said. The rebels also killed another soldier inan overnight attack on a military outpost in Bingolprovince, Dep. Gov. Fikret Zaman said. A total of threesoldiers were also injured on Sunday, The Associated Press reported. The rebel attack in Bingol was the first reported directassault on Turkish troops since the Kurdistan WorkersParty, or PKK, declared a one-month cease-fire on Aug. 20to seek indirect talks with the government.
