Gunmen kill two government employees, translator in Iraq

Baghdad, June 8, SPA -- Two government employees were killedin a Baghdad drive-by shooting Wednesday while an Iraqitranslator working for the U.S. military was slain north ofthe capital, security officials said. Two carloads of gunmen fired on a vehicle carryingIndustry Ministry officials Zaki Jawad and Mohammed Haider,killing both, police Lt. Mohammed Jassim said. Gunmen also killed Mustafa Ashraf, a translator workingfor U.S. troops, as he was driving between the towns ofKhalis and Baqouba, 60 kilometers (35 miles) northeast ofBaghdad, Iraqi army Col. Abdullah al-Shamari said. Also in Baqouba, a car bomb exploded at 10:15 a.m.(0615GMT) near a petrol station where cars were waiting forfuel, killing two civilians and destroying five vehicles,police Col. Muthafar Mohammed said.
