Baghdad, April 29, SPA -- Seven car bombs, mostly targeting Iraqi soldiers and police, exploded Friday morning in Baghdad, killing at least 17 people and wounding 67 others, Iraqi police said. Seven Iraqi soldiers and five Iraqi police officers are among the dead, while 13 soldiers and 13 police were wounded, the American Television Network "CNN" quoted police as saying. Twelve of the deaths were the result of four suicide bombs that exploded within a few hundred yards of each other in northern Baghdad neighborhoods during a 15-minute span, police said. The first two bombs went off at 8:15 a.m. (12:15 a.m. EDT) in the al-Adamiya neighborhood, with one hitting an Iraqi Army convoy and the other targeting an Iraqi police patrol, police said. Minutes later and about a half-mile away, a third car bomb detonated in the Slekh neighborhood as an Iraqi police patrol passed by, police said. That was followed almost immediately by a car bomb that exploded at an Iraqi police station in the same neighborhood, police said. The fifth, sixth and seventh car bombs all exploded in the al-Madain neighborhood in southeast Baghdad starting at around 8:30 a.m. (12:30 a.m. EDT), police said.--SPA1053 Local Time 0753 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/258683
