Kabul, April 13, SPA -- U.S. Secretary of Defense DonaldH. Rumsfeld arrived in Afghanistan on Wednesday on anunannounced visit expected to include talks with PresidentHamid Karzai, officials said. Rumsfeld arrived at the American base in the southern cityof Kandahar, U.S. military spokeswoman Lt. Cindy Mooresaid. Moore provided no details of his schedule, although anAfghan government spokesman said Rumsfeld was also expectedin the capital, Kabul, for talks with Karzai. Officials in neighboring Pakistan said Rumsfeld wasexpected in Islamabad later Wednesday for meetings withPresident Gen. Pervez Musharraf and other leaders.
