Ousted Kyrgyz leader has agreed to resign abroad: speaker

Bishkek, April 2, SPA -- Ousted President Askar Akayev has agreed to resign without returning to Kyrgyzstan, theparliament speaker said Saturday. He said members of acommission seeking Akayev's formal surrender of power wouldtravel to Moscow on Sunday. "We have received a verbal agreement" from Akayev, whofled to Russia after his ouster March 24, to sign hisresignation outside the country rather than returning andstepping down at a session of parliament, the legislature'sspeaker Omurbek Tekebayev said. He said commission members would travel to Moscow onSunday, but gave no details about plans for talks withAkayev, who has said in media interviews that he is outsidethe Russian capital.
