North Korean leader pledges to stick with nuclear talks, Beijing says

Beijing, Oct 30, SPA -- China's president won a pledge from NorthKorean leader Kim Jong Il to stick with internationalefforts to get his country to stop developing nuclearweapons in exchange for aid, AP quoted the Chinese government as sayingSunday. China also offered to do more to help its communist allydevelop its decrepit economy, during President Hu Jintao'srare three-day visit to North Korea that concluded Sunday,said Wang Jiarui, head of the Chinese Communist Party'sinternational department. Wang didn't give figures on aid or describe any plannedprojects in his briefing to reporters. He also refused tosay if the two leaders had any disagreements during theirtalks. And he evaded a question on what Beijing thinks of NorthKorea's demand that it be given a light-water nuclearreactor for power generation before it disarms. "As you know, the DPRK is still facing a lot ofdifficulties despite improvements in its economy and thelivelihoods of its people," Wang said, referring to theNorth by the initials of its official name.
