Baghdad, May 16, SPA -- Mortar barrages, roadside bombingsand drive-by shootings killed 10 Iraqis, officials saidMonday, and Iraq's new government vowed to crackdownagainst the killers of more than 40 people found slain inthe past 48 hours. Batches of bodies, many blindfolded and bound, were foundin various locations over the weekend, from arubbish-strewn vacant lot in Baghdad's Sadr City to achicken farm south of the capital in a region dubbed theTriangle of Death. Few details were available on the possible reasons for thekillings. The spokesman for Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafaricondemned the killings and said security forces weredetermined to catch those responsible. The attacks "aim to create sectarian fighting in thecountry because such clashes could bring more recruits to(militant) groups," spokesman Laith Kuba told TheAssociated Press on Monday.
