Baghdad, April 23, SPA -- A roadside bomb exploded near anIraqi army convoy on the outskirts of Baghdad on Saturday,killing nine soldiers and wounded 20, police said. When the surviving soldiers responded by opening fire,they shot and killed the driver of a civilian car, saidpolice Lt. Ahmed Abud. The attack occurred about seven kilometers (four miles)from the notorious Abu Ghraib prison, which was at thecenter of the prison abuse scandal last year afterphotographs were publicized showing U.S. soldiershumiliating Iraqi inmates. Four other attacks by insurgents occurred in Iraq onSaturday morning. _An Iraqi civilian was killed by a roadside bomb on ahighway in Samarra, 95 kilometers (60 miles) north ofBaghdad, said police Lt. Qassim Mohamed. _A suicide car bomb exploded near a Shiite mosque in Abual-Khasib, a town near Basra in southern Iraq, wounding twopeople, said police Col. Karim al-Zeidi. _In Mosul, 360 kilometers (225 miles) northwest ofBaghdad, a roadside bomb hit an Iraqi army convoy, woundingthree soldiers, said Dr. Bahaaldin al-Bakri at the city'shospital. _In eastern Baghdad, two policemen were wounded when aroadside bomb hit their car, said police Capt.
