Baghdad, April 15, SPA -- A U.S. Marine died when an insurgentmortar round landed inside a military base in western Iraq,the military said Friday. The marine, assigned to the 2nd Marine Division, 2ndMarine Expeditionary Force, died after a Wednesday attackat Camp Hit, in Anbar province, the military said. No other details were released. The marine's name is beingwithheld pending notification of next of kin. As of Thursday, April 14, 2005, at least 1,548 members ofthe U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraqwar in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.At least 1,178 died as a result of hostile action,according to the Defense Department.
