Warsaw, May 6, SPA -- President Aleksander Kwasniewskirefused the resignation of Prime Minister Marek Belka onFriday, The Associated Press reported. Belka offered his resignation to Kwasniewski infulfillment of a promise to head a caretaker government foronly one year. But the president exercised his right to keep Belka at thehelm for several more months, saying that trying to forge anew government with elections so near would createunnecessary complications. He reaffirmed that the ballot would fall according to aconstitution-dictated schedule on a Sunday between Sept. 25and Oct. 16.
