Beirut, April 25, SPA -- Lebanon's security chief Maj. Gen. Jamil Sayyed, resigned Monday, a day before Syria was to formally end its 29-year military deployment in Lebanon. Maj. Gen. Sayyed, who had stepped aside on Friday, announced his resignation in a statement. His earlier movehad placed Sayyed "at the disposal" of the primeminister, a formula that had allowed him to step asidewithout resigning. But on Monday he said he was resigning to avoid confusionand because of Lebanese policy changes dictated "by thechanging political developments." "I am honored to request that my services be terminatedand that the resignation is accepted," he said in hisstatement.--SPA1319 Local Time 1019 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/257774
