On the eve of the vote, Tymoshenko dispatched a 63-page,five-year government program to lawmakers laying out goalsto dismantle corruption, raise living standards and leadUkraine into European Union membership talks. "Our government work would be exclusively in theinterests of the people," she wrote in the program,entitled "Toward the People." "New government policies would be constructed on a clearset of principles: honesty, openness, patriotism,professionalism and effectiveness." Yushchenko's fiery ally needs approval from a simplemajority of Ukraine's 450 members of parliament _ aproportion lawmakers said she should easily win.
