Rome, Dec 30, SPA -- The Italian government is to consider debtrelief for the countries hit by devastating tidal waves inSouth and East Asia. Premier Silvio Berlusconi asked the Italian EconomyMinistry "to study the possibility of the cancellation ofaid credits" for quake-struck countries, according to astatement released late Wednesday. The statement from Berlusconi's office gave no indicationof which countries hold aid credits, or how much thecredits are worth. German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has called for a debtrepayment moratorium for Indonesia and Somalia, twocountries hit by Sunday's quake-triggered tidal waves, andsaid that he would propose the measure at an upcomingmeeting of the Paris Club of creditor countries.
