Five rebels killed, four soldiers injured as violence erupts in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 8, SPA -- A suicide bomber blew himself up outside a military camp in the Indian-controlled portion ofKashmir on Monday, while five other suspected rebels werekilled in separate incidents, police said. The suicide bomber detonated grenades strapped to his bodyas he tried to force his way into the camp in Baramulladistrict of India's Jammu-Kashmir state, said Junaid Ahmad,a police officer. Four soldiers were wounded, Ahmad said. Baramulla is 55 kilometers (35 miles) north of Srinagar,the summer capital of Jammu-Kashmir. Meanwhile, army soldiers killed a suspected rebel during a gunbattle in nearby Khumriyal village, he said. Soldiers also killed two rebels during a fierce gunbattlein Khanabal town, 50 kilometers (30 miles) south ofSrinagar, said Lt. Col. V.K. Batra, a defense spokesman. Two other rebels belonging to Lashkar-e-Tayyaba were killed in another gunbattle with soldiers in Zainapora village, 70 kilometers (43 miles) south of Srinagar, Batra said.
