More than 700,000 Afghan refugees living in Pakistan to vote in Afghanistan President

Islamabad, Oct 6, SPA -- More than 700,000 Afghan refugees, living in Pakistan, have got their names registered for voting during the three-day registration campaign in Pakistan, Senior Afghan Advisor of International Organization for Immigration (IOM) Ms Bilquees Ahmedi said. These registered voters will exercise their right of franchise in the October 9 presidential election. Afghan refugees who are eligible for casting their votes were registered out of around 800,000 total refugees living in Pakistan, Ms Bilquees told state-run Pakistan Television. "Our target was between 600,000 and 800,000 and we succeeded in registering more than 700,000 Afghan voters," she added. Ms Bilquees said this number makes over 5 percent of the total number of Afghan voters. IOM advisor said 1, 657 polling stations have been established in Balochistan, North West Frontier Province (NWFP, Islamabad and in the refugees camps.--SPA1329 Local Time 1029 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/208497
