Jebaliya Refugee Camp, Gaza Strip, Oct 9, SPA -- Israeli troopsfired at "Hamas" fighters preparing to fire an anti-tankmissile Saturday, and the shots set off an explosion thatkilled one man and wounded three, the army and hospitalofficials said. Palestinian witnesses initially described the incident inthe Jebaliya refugee camp as an Israeli missile attack froma helicopter. However, the military said troops fired shotsat the Palestinians' missile launcher, detonating it. Abed Nabhan, 25, a Hamas field commander, was killed inthe explosion. Earlier Saturday, a lengthy gunbattle erupted betweenPalestinians and Israeli troops just outside thenorthern Gaza town of Beit Hanoun, killing twoPalestinians, according to medical officials. The deaths brought the number of Palestinians killed to 92since Israel began its offensive in northern Gaza on Sept.29 to stop Palestinians from launching homemade rockets into Israel. Almost half of those killed in the raid were civilians, 18 were age 16 and under. The gunfight in Beit Hanoun broke out when Israeli troopstried to move to the east side of the town and Palestinianstried to stop them, residents said. Also Saturday, about 15 Israeli tanks moved toward thenearby village of Beit Lahiya, apparently attempting toenter it. The tank advance was accompanied by explosionsand machine-gun fire from helicopters and tanks, whichwounded two people, residents said.
