Washington, Oct 9, SPA -- The United States warned U.S. citizens in Egypt to take precautions and avoid the eastern coast of the Sinai peninsula, especially the areas of Taba and Nuweiba, after bomb attacks there that killed at least 28 people. "While there is no indication that U.S. citizens were the targets of the attacks, Americans in Egypt are urged to exercise caution and remain vigilant," the State Department said in a message released by the U.S. embassy in Cairo yesterday. "U.S. citizens should avoid travel in the central and northern areas of the east coast of Sinai," the warning said. A State Department spokeswoman, Susan Pittman, said Washington was unaware of any American casualties in the bombings, which hit the Hilton Hotel in Taba, near the Israeli border, and two restaurants in the backpacker resort of Ras Sultan, near Nuweiba further south.--SPA1147 Local Time 0847 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/209101
