Parliament votes to extend mandate of Czech troops in Iraq

Prague, Nov 4, SPA -- The lower chamber of the Czech parliament voted on Thursday to extend the mandate of Czech troops in Iraq by two months. The vote was 138-4 in the 200-seat chamber. The measurestill requires approval by the upper chamber, the Senate. The Czech Republic has some 100 military police based nearBasra, where they are training Iraqi officers. Their mandate currently expires at the end of the year. The measure approved Thursday would extend their mandateuntil Feb. 28, 2005, keeping them in the country during theelections scheduled for January.
