Jakarta, Indonesia, Sept 9, SPA -- A powerful car bomb exploded near the Australian Embassy in Jakarta on Thursday, killing seven people and wounding nearly 100, police said. No one inside the heavily fortified embassy was hurt, said Lyndall Sachs, a spokeswoman for the Australian foreignministry in Canberra. The bombing flattened the mission'sgate, mangled cars and motorbikes on the street andshattered the windows of nearby high-rise buildings. A senior police officer who asked not to be identifiedsaid seven people died, including three policemen guardingthe building. A doctor at a nearby hospital said 98 peoplewere admitted with injuries, none of them foreigners. "Initial investigations show this was a car bomb.
