Seoul, March 3, SPA -- Top U.S. and Chinese negotiatorsagreed Thursday to try to lure North Korea back to nucleardisarmament talks, after Washington dismissed ascounterproductive the North's latest threat to resumelong-range missile testing. U.S. ambassador to South Korea Christopher Hill, who isWashington's top negotiator in the nuclear talks, andChinese Deputy Foreign Minister Wu Dawei "had a goodmeeting and a constructive exchange of views," an Americanembassy official said. "Both parties agreed that the Korean Peninsula must bedenuclearized and the six-party talks are the best way toachieve this goal," the official said on condition ofanonymity. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said inBeijing that, "Ambassador Hill said America harbors nohostility toward (North Korea) and the United States iswilling to have serious dialogue." Wu arrived Wednesday for a three-day trip to Seoul and hasalso met South Korean officials, including seeingUnification Minister Chung Dong-young on Thursday after histalks with Hill.
