German police arrest three Iraqis on terror suspicion

Berlin, Dec 3, SPA -- German police arrested three Iraqi terrorsuspects Friday in coordinated raids during a visit byIraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi to Berlin, prosecutorssaid. Police raided nine buildings in three states, includingBerlin, the Federal Prosecutor's Office said in a statement. The statement did not elaborate and the prosecutor'soffice had no additional comment. Word of the arrests came as Allawi met with GerhardSchroeder at the chancellor's office, part of a short visitin which the Iraqi premier plans to press Germany for morereconstruction help. Security was heavy. The entire downtown area around thechancellery was blocked off and police guarded the streetsand watched from rooftops. The early-morning raids were carried out by federalprosecutors and state police from Berlin, Baden-Wuerttemberg and Bavaria.
