New Delhi, Sept 11, SPA -- Indian President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Saturday left for a week-long visit to Tanzania and South Africa - his second overseas tour after assuming office two years ago. Kalam will be the first Indian president to visit South Africa. He is accompanied by minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Meira Kumar and MPs Bimal Jalan, Mehbooba Mufti and H.T. Sangliana. Accords on information, communication and technology are to be signed with South Africa and Tanzania during the tour. The two African countries were seen as important partners with "traditional goodwill" for India, a senior official of India's Ministry for External Affairs said. Kalam, who is one of India's top scientists and one of the architects of its nuclear programme, has a keen interest in the field of education. The official said he would be visiting universities and interacting with students in both countries. --SPA 1406 Local Time 1106 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/200380
