Makhachkala, Russia, Nov 10, SPA -- Police stormed an apartment in southern Russia in a failed attempt to seize a suspectedterrorist and came under gunfire, authorities saidWednesday. One special forces officer was killed and asenior police official injured. The alleged terrorist, Rasul Makashiripov, escaped, saidpolice spokeswoman Anzhela Martirosova. Police came under fire as they raided the apartment inMakhachkala late Tuesday. Special forces officer ZalimkhanAliakhmedov was killed, and the region's Deputy InteriorMinister Muslim Dakhayev was injured, Martirosova said. Theextent of his injuries was not immediately known. Five people in the apartment were detained, including twowomen, Martirosova said.
