Nairobi, Sept 24, SPA - - The war-torn Darfur region in western Sudan should be given more autonomy by the government in Khartoum, the head of the U.N. refugee agency (UNHCR) was quoted as saying on Friday. He suggested a loose federal system may be the best way to stop continuing violence in Darfur. "My gut feeling is the best would be that Sudan finds itself in a way where it accepts relative autonomies of regions", UNHCR head Ruud Lubbers was quoted as saying by the British Broadcasting Corporation. Lubbers, who begins a visit to Sudan and neighbouring Chad on Friday, said he was aware his suggestion may be controversial. --SPA 1331 Local Time 1031 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/204552
