Al-Arish, Egypt, Ramadan 18, 1433, Aug 6, 2012, SPA - Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi promised to bring to justice the perpetrators of an attack on Rafah and Karem Abu Salem on the border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip in the occupied Palestine that left 16 members of the security forces dead. Gunmen attacked the border crossings manned by the police and central security forces late Sunday that also injured seven, a security source said. Morsi promised a harsh response to the incident and said the military would bring the Sinai Peninsula under control. Security authorities were working to determine the identities of the attackers, a spokesman for the president's office told state-run television. No group had taken responsibility for the attacks, the television was quoted as saying by DPA. Meanwhile, Egyptian authorities closed the border crossing with the Gaza Strip at Rafah indefinitely, several news reports said. The attack was carried out by masked gunmen in two vehicles, a witness told the Al Ahram newspaper. "They stole an armoured vehicle and then fired rocket-propelled grenades at a nearby army checkpoint," the witness was quoted as saying. The armed men later drove towards the Karm Abu Salem border crossing about 10 kilometres further south. --SPA 13:03 LOCAL TIME 10:03 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/1020611
