Berlin, Ramadan 7, 1435, Jul 4, 2014, SPA -- The German Foreign Ministry on Friday summoned US Ambassador John Emerson for a meeting, following new allegations that an employee of the German intelligence service had spied for the United States, dpa reported. Foreign Ministry State Secretary Stephan Steinlein had requested that Emerson "contribute to a speedy clarification" of the situation, the ministry said. Germany suspects that an employee of its intelligence service, who is now under arrest, had been betraying secrets to the United States over a period of years, according to government sources. The arrest of a 31-year-old German man on espionage charges was disclosed on Thursday but the significance of this took a day to emerge.
