Washington, Sha'ban 28, 1433, Jul 18, 2012, SPA - The ongoing crackdown on opponents of the Syrian government will not end the revolution in the country, the U.S. State Department said Tuesday. Patrick Ventrell, a department spokesman, said the conflict in Syria suggests the government of President Bashar Al-Assad is not in control of the entire country. “We think that the Assad regime is losing control and that he continues to take his country toward a dangerous end,” Ventrell told reporters. “Our opinion is that this crackdown is not going to stop the revolution.” Fighting was reported Tuesday in Damascus for a third consecutive day. The International Committee of the Red Cross last weekend characterized the conflict in Syria as civil war. --SPA 11:42 LOCAL TIME 08:42 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/1016380
