Washington, Ramadan 9, 1434, Jul 18, 2013, SPA - The White House said Wednesday that it agrees with President Barack Obama’s nominee for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power when she called the U.N.’s inaction on Syria a “disgrace.” “We see the failure of the U.N. Security Council to respond to the slaughter in Syria a disgrace that history will judge harshly,” Power said in testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee during her confirmation hearing early Wednesday. White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters that Samantha Power was likely referring to the U.N. Security Council’s failure to pass resolutions on Syria due to China and Russia. “I think she’s referring to the United Nations Security Council’s failure to pass resolutions that we strongly supported and that were denied or vetoed by Russia and China, and we’ve made our views and our disappointment over that well-known. It is extremely unfortunate,” Carney said. “So the president shares Samantha Power’s views on the extreme disappointment that we all felt at the Security Council’s failure to move on Syria, to act on Syria,” Carney said. --SPA 11:10 LOCAL TIME 08:10 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/1130358
