GENEVA, Shawwal 23, 1433, Sep 10, 2012, SPA - U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is urging the world's foremost human rights body to keep up the pressure on major powers to end the civil war and rights abuses in Syria. Ban says he is "deeply troubled by the aerial bombardments of civilians by government forces; by the increasing sectarian tensions; by the deteriorating humanitarian situation; and by the apparent choice of both sides to pursue a solution through force rather than dialogue." He told the U.N. Human Rights Council at the opening of its month-long session in Geneva Monday that he welcomes its "stepped-up engagement" on Syria. Ban says the world must ensure that anyone who commits war crimes, crimes against humanity or other violations of international law is brought to justice. --SPA 13:25 LOCAL TIME 10:25 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/1028494
