New Delhi, Shawwal 8, 1433, Aug 26, 2012, SPA - Seven people have died in renewed fighting between indigenous tribes and Muslim settlers in the north-eastern Indian state of Assam, police said Sunday. Five bodies were found in a paddy field in the district of Chirang late Saturday, police said. "The victims were apparently staying at a relief camp and had gone out to buy groceries," a district police official said. "The assailants dragged them out of their vehicle and stabbed them to death. The bodies were later dumped in the field," he told DPA by phone. The bodies of two local traders were found in Dhemaji, a remote district in eastern Assam, which officials said was also a sign that the violence was spreading to new areas. An indefinite curfew was in place in Chirang and Kokrajhar, and the authorities have warned of strict action against the rioters. --SPA 13:30 LOCAL TIME 10:30 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/1024656
