U.N. Security Council Renews Darfur Peacekeeping Force

Washington, Ramadan 13, 1433, Aug 1, 2012, SPA - The U.N. Security Council Tuesday extended the mandate of peacekeepers in Sudan's Darfur region, but is reducing the size of the force. The Security Council adopted a resolution extending the joint U.N.-African Union mission in Darfur, known as UNAMID, through July 31 of next year. The resolution lowers the number of troops in the force to 16,200 from 19,000.
