Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday called on the Syrian government to make clear that it will not use its chemical weapons stockpile under any circumstance. “I call on the [Syrian] government to renounce any use of chemical weapons under any circumstance,” the secretary-general said in remarks to reporters on Monday. Ban who returned over the weekend to U.N. headquarters in New York City after two weeks of official travel that took him to China, the Balkans, and finally to London for the Olympics opening ceremony, said that the situation in Syria was the main topic during his meetings with politicians and officials during his travels.
