Cairo, Rajab 26, 1433, Jun 16, 2012, SPA - Polling stations opened across Egypt on Saturday for a presidential election run-off contested by Mohammed Morsi of Freedom and Justice Party and Ahmed Shafiq, the Former Prime Minister. Some 50 million people are eligible to vote in the two-day poll to pick a successor to Hosni Mubarak, who was deposed in a popular uprising last year. Neither Mohammed Morsi nor Ahmed Shafiq, managed to secure an outright majority in the first round last month, according to a report of DPA. Morsi got 24.8 per cent and Shafiq got 23.7 per cent. The more than 13,000 polling stations, spread across the country's 27 provinces, were due to stay open until 8 pm. State employees are given the two days off work to vote. The government has announced reduced fares on public transport on the days of the vote. Official results are due to be announced on June 21. --SPA 14:45 LOCAL TIME 11:45 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/1007930
