United Nations, Jumada II 14, 1433, May 5, 2012, SPA -- United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Richard Anderson Falk has denounced the continuing violations of human rights in the Israeli prison where more than a thousand Palestinian prisoners in Israel began an indefinite hunger strike from April 17, 2012, in protest against the unjust arrest procedure, arbitrary detention and the shabby prison conditions. Falk called on the international community to ensure Israel's compliance with the laws and norms of international human rights with regard to Palestinian prisoners, stressing the need for Israel to treat them in line with international standards. Falk also stressed the need to allow prisoners to challenge the administrative detention orders effectively including lawyers' access to the evidence. --SPA 11:33 LOCAL TIME 08:33 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/995060
